Starting with a boat from the beach of Paleokastritsa, you have the opportunity to enjoy a complex of caves that were carved both by karstic processes and erosion by the sea. All this comes in perfect harmony with the green hills and the rocks of the region. The boat also makes a trip around the coastline and at the same time passes separately through each cave. One of the Palaiokastritsa caves is called Nausica Cave, named after the daughter of the King of the Phaeacians. According to Homer she found Odysseus and nursed him back to health. Another cave is called Blue Eye due to a patch of incredibly blue water which resembles an eye.
The sight that visitors admire while they pass through the caves is fascinating. The sunlight reflects on the rocks and the waters take a particular green color. The boat makes a short stop inside the caves so many visitors have the chance to swim around there. The local men with their small boats generally speak English and German. There is no shadow on the boat and the sun can be quite intense, so we recommend a hat and sun protection for the trip.
